Programme for the Enhancement of
Research Information (PERI)
This programme is to support capacity building in study, teaching and research
sectors in developing and transitional countries by strengthening the
production, access and dissemination of current scientifics’ information. This
is a donor funded-project managed by the International Network for the
Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP), UK.
Through this arrangement, INASP negotiates with publishers of online resources
for big discounts on subscriptions. National University of Rwanda was able to
join this programme with funding from SIDA/SAREC to support research activities
in Rwanda.
PERI in
Rwanda
In 2003, The National University of Rwanda was invited to join PERI. However
the National University of Rwanda could neither fund itself nor Rwanda as a
whole for access to the online resources. By then, SIDA/SAREC realized the
importance of current information to teaching and research, and therefore went a
mile further to fund the online access to the resources for up to 2005, through
the Library Support project. Although National University of Rwanda pays for
the resources with SIDA/SAREC funding to the Library, access to the resources is
country wide, and is for non-profit teaching and research institutions.
